Charity: Water & Thirsty Buddha

As part of Thirsty Buddha’s involvement with 1% For The Planet, we have pledged 1% of our annual sales to four charities that help the environment and people in need to acquire necessary natural resources. One of these deserving organizations is Charity: Water.

It comes as no surprise to anyone familiar with the Thirsty Buddha brand that health and hydration are paramount when it comes to our central concerns. For most of us, access to adequate hydration is as simple as opening your sink’s faucet, or heading to your nearest Thirsty Buddha retailer. However, for millions across the globe, this necessity is not so readily available. Because we know just how central hydration is to good health, we decided to fund an entire water project in a soon-to-be-determined community that’s in need.

Water projects and the work that this organization does goes far beyond quenching thirst for people in need. Normally, women and children in impoverished African countries must walk for miles each day and wait in line for hours in order to collect contaminated water. Not only does this lead to diseases, it prevents women and children from seeking employment or education. Charity: Water’s projects create jobs by hiring local laborers to do the work and also teaching them how to maintain the wells, ensuring that the community will always have access to water. This affords children the time to go to school, women the opportunity to hold jobs and reduces the amount of deaths due to ingesting contaminated water.
